Residents in Apopka remain frustrated over mail issues

News 6 contacted Apopka branch post office

APOPKA, Fla. – Neighbors in Apopka say it's been a problem for years.

They say they're either getting their mail late, or they're not getting any at all.

Last week, we showed you the video of a postal worker tossing packages on a front porch.

Since our story aired, people have been expressing their stories of frustration.

News 6 contacted Enola C. Rice, a spokeswoman for the Apopka branch.

In a statement, she said, "We ask customers with mail concerns to contact the postmaster so that we can address and resolve their concerns quickly. When a postmaster is unavailable, customers should ask to speak with a manager or supervisor, and may also call 800.ASK.USPS, which is available 24/7.
We gather information and research concerns on a case by case basis. We then follow up with customers and take appropriate action to ensure they receive excellent service.

"We extend our apologies to the customers who informed you they did not receive responses, and ask that they please contact the postmaster so that we can follow-up."

But residents like Jennifer Hay feel as though her concerns are going unnoticed.

"I think ultimately, we really just need the post office to take the concern seriously. I feel like it's never been taken seriously in over two years, with a lot of complaints. This is a 500-homecommunity. There's a lot of us that complain, and nothing happens," said Hay.

As a blogger, Hay receives packages almost on a daily basis.

Or at least, she says she should.

"They're sending me products, and if that product is not received, I'm responsible for it. So, that's a big deal," said Hay.

Tammy Bowman-Rice shares the same frustration. As a small business owner, she says she noticed the problem in August.

At one point, Rice says she didn't receive mail for fifteen days.

"I've gotten late notices from Duke Energy stating, 'Your power is going to be cut off,'" said Rice. "I would get the late notice. Pay for that late notice and hope to God I had the money to pay, because
I don't have checks rolling in like they were."

Both women say they have tried to contact the post office, but feel as though they have received the run-around when it comes to finding a resolution.

"I reached out to the post office multiple times. They go unanswered. A lot of times, you can't even get through. It's a busy signal but, when you get through, they act like they don't care. Nothing happens," say Hay.

Rice says she was able to get in touch with the operations manager Monday.

He assured her he would look into the complaints and handle each one.
