ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man accused of leading Orange County deputies on a chase on Thursday will appear before a judge on Friday.
Deputies were attempting to pull over a white Ford pickup truck around 3:30 p.m. Thursday near the University of Central Florida when the driver fled from lose the patrol car. The pickup turned out to be stolen and the driver, Garrison Cooke, was wanted on attempted murder charges, Orange County deputies said.
Deputies first saw Cooke at Clayborn and Buck, Orange County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Jeff Willamson said. When Cooke saw the deputies he took off.
Cooke drove at high speeds on Dean Road and then moved onto State Road 419 South, officials said. See raw video of the pursuit here.
Deputies caught Cooke just before 4 p.m. at SR 419 and Lake Mills, near the Hitching Post Bar & Grill in Chuluota.
A woman, believed to be Cooke's girlfriend, was also in the car during the chase and urged him to pull over, Williamson said. She was not arrested. Authorities said Cooke could face kidnapping charges because he wouldn't let her out of the vehicle.
"She's fine. She's a bit shaken up," Willamson said. "She did want to get out of the vehicle. He would not allow her to do so."
Cooke, 27, is accused of attempted murder with a knife on Dec. 14, officials said.
Williamson said Cooke is a violent offender with a long criminal history. He was wanted on two warrants in Seminole County.
The Ford pickup truck was reported stolen in Brevard County earlier Thursday.
Cooke was booked into the Seminole County Jail.
