ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Al's Army-Navy manager Sam Porter got a call Wednesday morning from the Altamonte Springs store's alarm system company about a break-in. Porter asked for police dispatch and headed to the store.
When the manager arrived, he saw a mess.
"It was shards of glass hanging out, they broke out the center of the window," Porter said. "It went out like an explosion. I'm finding glass halfway through the store."
Surveillance video showed three men in a white four-door Toyota car throwing concrete through the window, and searching the store for guns.
But Al's Army-Navy store keeps the guns under a different lock overnight for the very reason of deterring thieves.
"Don't break into us, 'cause you aren't going to get the guns," Porter said.
One of the thieves was determined to get a gun and, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, thought he spotted one on the wall nearby.
But what the thieves didn't know was that it was actually a pellet gun.
"I think when they find out that it was a toy gun, they'll be disappointed. They thought they got away with a real firearm," Porter said.
Porter told News 6 the store has been targeted before so they take extra security measures to keep it safe. However, they're now left footing a major window-repair bill.
The window will cost about $1,000 to replace, according to the report.
Anyone who recognizes the thieves in the surveillance video is asked to call the Altamonte Springs Police Department or the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
