Winter Park Farmers' Market to start accepting food stamps

Tokens can be used to buy fruit, fresh produce

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Come Feb. 4, the Winter Park Farmers' Market will become the second Central Florida market to accept food stamps.

The city of Winter Park’s sustainability program announced Friday that it will allow access to the Supplemental Nutrition Access Program, also known as the EBT program.

Patrons with an EBT card will be able to purchase tokens at the market's welcome booth and use the tokens at Florida-grown produce and edible plant vendors, according to a news release.

The Winter Park Health Foundation and Healthy Central Florida helped bring the EBT program to the farmers market, and a $5,000 grant from the Fresh Access Bucks program will allow SNAP patrons to have their funds matched up to $20 for extra spending power.

The Audubon Park Community Market is the only other market in the area to accept SNAP benefits.

The Winter Park Farmers' Market is held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at 200 W. New England Ave.
