Bomb threat forces evacuation at Daytona Beach Probation and Parole Office

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole (East) building was evacuated Thursday after an anonymous bomb threat was made.

The Daytona Beach Police Department said a man called the office at 1023 Mason Avenue at about 4:04 p.m., and once he made sure it was the Probation and Parole Office stated there was a bomb inside the business.

Police said employees then found an abandoned backpack in a hallway. The business and surrounding businesses were then evacuated while the Volusia County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad assisted with examining the backpack with a bomb robot.

Police said the backpack was destroyed and the building was deemed safe at 8:30 p.m.

All businesses in the plaza will reopen at their scheduled times on Friday.
