St. Cloud brush fire flare-ups prompt road closures

South St. Cloud Elementary entrance shut down, parents should use north entrance

ST. CLOUD, Fla. – Several roads were shut down Friday because of flareups from the brush fire near St. Cloud Elementary, fire officials said.

Budinger Avenue from Progress Lane to the south entrance of St. Cloud Elementary is shut down until further notice, according to the St. Cloud Fire Department.

All buses and parents picking up students are asked to go to the north entrance using the 17th Street side of Budinger Avenue.

The school is implementing inclement weather procedures for students who walk home, according to Osceola County officials.

The school was evacuated Thursday after the 40-acre brush fire was caused by downed power lines.

St. Cloud police said Sunday that Budinger Avenue will remain closed from the South entrance of St. Cloud Elementary to Progress Lane through the beginning of the week.

The fire, which burned near Bailey Road, was 100 percent contained as of 6:30 p.m. Thursday. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
