Brevard deputy who saved jet skiers, saves woman from choking

Deputy Taner Primmer at 'right place at the right time to save lives'

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A Brevard County deputy seems to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Deputy Taner Primmer jumped into action recently while he was off duty enjoying dinner with his family at the Merritt Island Outback Steakhouse and he heard a nearby patron choking.

The woman was holding her throat and had collapsed to the floor.

Primmer immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver saving her life. She was able to start breathing on her own and recovered.

“This is a perfect example of why we have such great respect for our first responders," a spokeswoman for Outback told News 6. "Deputy Primmer, who was also a guest at the time, didn’t hesitate to help another guest. We’re thankful for his heroic actions and we’re glad everyone is okay.”

It's the second time this year the heroic deputy saved a life, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Primmer is the same deputy who on March 11 jumped in harm's way to save two women on a jet ski in in the path of cruise ship at Port Canaveral.

As the massive ship began to sweep by just a few feet from the two women Primmer quickly yanked them both into his boat. Seconds later, the driverless jet ski hit the side of the cruise ship, bouncing across its hull.

"Taner seems to always be in the right place at the right time to save lives," Sheriff Wayne Ivey said.

Primmer said he thinks everyone at the Sheriff's Office is capable of saving a life anytime, anywhere.

"I could not be more proud of Deputy Primmer, who is a member of our Sea Port Security Marine Unit, for all that he does to protect our community," Ivey said.
