Garbage truck claw injures cyclist

Cyclist sent to Central Florida Regional hospital, police say

WINTER PARK, Fla. – A Waste Pro specialty-type garbage truck with a boom claw attachment injured a cyclist and sent him to Central Florida Regional hospital Tuesday, Casselberry police said. 

The accident took place at the Helen Street Mobile Home park, just south of Winter Park Drive and State Route 434. Authorities responded to the crash, where the cyclist suffered serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the garbage truck has shown no signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and authorities are still unsure how the claw struck the cyclist, police said.

As of now, the cyclist is listed as critical at Central Florida Regional hospital and traffic investigators are still conducting their investigation, police said.
