Orlando man arrested for having gun at UF during Richard Spencer event, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man hired for security by the media was arrested Thursday for carrying a gun on the University of Florida campus, where white nationalist Richard Spencer spoke, officials said.

Sean Brijmohan, 28, was arrested on a charge of carrying a firearm on school property. It's not known which media organization hired Brijmohan.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, a deputy saw Brijmohan walking with a gun on his waist and under his shirt. Brijmohan possesses a concealed carry license, deputies said.

Later on Thursday, deputies said a second unrelated arrest was made. David Notte, 34, is charged with resisting an officer without violence.

In a seperate incident, Gainesville police said no one was struck after a white man in a Silver Jeep fired a single shot near SW 34th Street and Archer Road.

Hundreds of people protested on campus with signs and anti-Nazi chants outside the UF Phillips Center for the Performing Arts to prevent violence as Spencer spoke.

Protesters shouted, "Not in our town! Not in our state! We don't want your Nazi hate!"

Hundreds of law enforcement officers were also on hand.

No injuries have been reported.

The school estimates that it spent $600,000 on security to ensure no repeat of violent clashes connected to a white nationalist gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia, that left one dead in August.

UF cited the Charlottesville violence in rejecting an initial request from Spencer to speak at the university, but later relented on free speech grounds.

Florida's governor declared a state of emergency for the event.
