Teen girl in medically induced coma after mudding accident

Brandon East All-Stars cheer team raising money for girl's family

APOPKA, Fla. – Kayla Johnson, 13, is in a medically induced coma after she fractured her skull in a mudding accident in Lake County on Saturday.

"She has been in intensive care unit in an induced coma while they are waiting for the swelling to subside," said Ban Hazlerig, program director with Brandon East All-Stars.

Johnson has been a part of the cheerleading group for the past three years.

"It's been really tough here at the gym, we're kind of a cheer family," he said. "So when something like this happens to one of our own, everyone definitely feels the pain."

Now, Kayla's extended family with Brandon All-Stars East is trying to raise money to help her parents as they go through such a difficult time by setting up a GoFundMe page

"When a tragedy like this happens, it obviously shocks everybody at first, but to support her and her family is to really shine and to do what the kids do best," Hazlerig said.
