Deputies: Woman found dead, man shot in foot at Seminole County home

Deputies following 'strong investigative leads' in hopes of identifying suspect

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies are investigating after a woman was killed and a man was shot in the foot Friday morning at a Seminole County home.

A man called 911 about 10:30 a.m. and said he was shot in the foot while dropping off a key to a woman he knows on Gina Court in Apopka, according to Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma. The victim said when he went inside, he saw the woman clearly injured and potentially not breathing, deputies said.

Lemma said a woman in her early 20s was found dead in a bedroom when authorities arrived. Her cause of death has not been released.

"At this point in time, it does not appear that the female victim has been shot," Lemma said.

The victim who was shot in the foot said he believed he saw a woman in jeans with a hood over her face and potentially another person inside the home who left before deputies arrived, officials said.

Lemma said no arrests have been made but deputies are following some "strong investigative leads." He added that neighbors recalled seeing a silver or white sedan, possibly a Lexus, near the home about 15 minutes before the shooting was reported.

The shooting and the death do not appear to be drug-related, and there was no history of criminal activity associated with the home where the woman was found dead, according to Lemma.

The man who was shot in the foot used to live at the home, although it's unclear if he still does.

Seminole County Animal Services was called to the scene to help secure two dogs that were inside the home.

No further details have been released. Check back for more updates on this developing story.
