WINTER PARK, Fla. – A teenage gunman was arrested Monday night in Winter Park following a shooting near Rollins College and a later shootout with police, authorities said.
Jerad Christopher Vasquez, 19, was arrested on two counts of attempted murder on law enforcement officers and one count of attempted murder, along with other charges.
Vasquez was taken into police custody Monday night after a brief exchange of gunfire with police, according to officials. No one was injured in that shooting.
Earlier in the day, Rollins College was locked down during a search for Vasquez, who police said shot a man in the 900 block of Orange Avenue, about a mile from campus.
Rollins College officials told students and staff shortly before 4 p.m. to get into the nearest room and lock the door. Others were told to avoid the area.
A photo posted online showed Rollins College students on the floor in a classroom with the lights out.
The lockdown was lifted more than an hour later.
The victim has not been identified and police have not said if he and Vasquez knew each other.
