LONGWOOD, Fla. – Fans of comic book legend Stan Lee are remembering his talent for writing stories with grit that will transcend time.
Lee, the creator of Marvel Comics, died in Los Angeles on Monday at the age of 95, according to a family spokesman.
"It’s a real bummer," said Josh Dinkins, who owns Acme Superstore, a store dedicated to comic books, in Longwood.
"I just kind of thought that he (would) be there until the end of time," Dinkins said.
Long before Black Panther, Captain America and the Avengers were brought to life on the big screen, and before Marvel Superhero Island opened at Universal Studios Orlando, Lee got started in comic books.
"The most awesome comic, I think, that was ever created is 'Amazing Fantasy Number 15,'" Dinkins said. "This is the very first appearance of Spider-Man. It tells the origin."
The comic book is listed for sale at Acme Superstore for nearly $32,000.
That's just one of the prized possessions with the Marvel name that Dinkins said he's not only proud to own, but proud to share with others.
He said Lee's legacy will never fade.
"Those are really good stories that really manage to last the test of time, but are some of the most important stories in pop culture today in comics," he said.
