A red flag was flown due to very hazardous rip current conditions, beach safety officials said. They anticipate stronger rip currents Saturday as the wind shifts to offshore, coupled with an outgoing tide from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Officials said the beach was closed most of Friday morning to vehicle traffic because of the large surf, but it was later reopened.

Extra lifeguard towers are being staffed for this time of year due to the surf conditions, beach officials said. They advised people to swim near a lifeguard.
