Daytona Beach woman wins $100K with lucky hand of poker

Woman wins big at Deep Stack Classic Charity Event

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A woman who won $100,000 on one hand of poker received her cash and prizes on Tuesday at the Daytona Kennel Club & Poker Room.

It is all part of the 7th annual Deep Stack Classic Charity Event that was held back in April.

"I checked three times to make sure I actually had what I thought I had," said Sandy Brown.

Brown said she was excited that she got her first royal flush and thought she had won a Rolex watch, but actually she won a promotional package that included a new car and $32,000 for getting a royal flush on the flop.

"My knees gave way underneath me, I couldn't believe it," she said.

Brown said she's been playing in the Deep Stack Classic Charity event for the last five years and said the odds of winning that hand are extremely slim.

"It's a one in 2.6 million chance of flopping a specific suit," said Brown.

Brown should know, she's a retired math teacher from Seminole County and well known in the poker community.

"From the players to the staff to the regular people, they were so pleased that it went to such a wonderful woman," said Scott Frank, Co-Chair of the Deep Stack Charity Classic.

Frank said not only was the event sold out, but they've raised about $50,000 that will be going to five local organizations.

"We're issuing our first check next week to Halifax Health which will be $12,500," he said.

As for Brown, she'll also be donating money to charity and has an idea of what she'll do with the rest of it.

"As much of it as I can, I'll leave in my poker account, so I can play more poker," she said.

Brown said she's been playing poker for the last nine years.
