Family of man struck, killed in hit-and-run ask for help finding drivers

Rasheed Wiggins, 39, struck by 3 vehicles while crossing street

ORLANDO, Fla. – The family of Rasheed Wiggins, 39, is asking for anyone with information on his death to contact investigators.

On Monday, Wiggins' wife Kimberly said that the two hit-and-run drivers took away the love of her life.

"In that second, those few seconds, when those drivers made such a reckless and incentive and stupid decision, they took all of that away. They took away my one," said Kimberly Wiggins.

The victim's wife said that since his death, friends from across the country have contacted her, saying he helped impact their lives.

"When you needed someone to listen to you, when you needed someone to encourage you, when you needed someone just to smile at you, he was willing to be there," said Kimberly Wiggins.

Troopers with Florida Highway Patrol are still searching for the first two drivers who hit Wiggins. The first vehicle is described as a newer white sedan. It's believed the first vehicle entered the grassy median where Wiggins was standing. His body was then thrown into the roadway on Universal Boulevard, when a woman driving an older white vehicle hit him also. Witnesses said the driver of the second vehicle was looking at her smartphone at the time. Bystanders told investigators they were able to see it was a female driving because the light from the phone lit up her face.

Both drivers did not stop. One of the vehicles is described as a 2011 to 2013 white Toyota Prius with front or left front damage to the car, according to troopers.

A third vehicle driven by a taxi driver also hit Wiggins, but the taxi driver stopped at the scene.

"Even if it seems like a small clue, or a small thing, you saw that it could mean the difference and it could mean closure for my family and a lot of other people out there too," said Kimberly Wiggins.

FHP still has not been able to review the 911 calls placed at the time of the incident. Troopers also plan to review surveillance cameras in the area to see if any footage was captured of the incident.

Once Wiggins' body is released from the medical examiners office, an Orlando funeral home will prepare his body to be transported to Georgia, where his family is.

People who live at the same apartment complex told News 6 that they have no other option, but to cross the same unmarked intersection because there isn't a sidewalk on that side of the street. Therefore, they feel there isn't space to walk to the nearest crosswalk.

"It's a little frightening. It's a little scary. We paused before we actually crossed the street to think about it, but it's day light. The sun is out," said neighbor Angela Taylor.

Wiggins was a graduate of Duke University with a master's degree in business.

If anyone has information about the first two vehicles, they are ask to contact Crimeline where they can remain anonymous at 800-423-TIPS or the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-221
