INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. – Three people were rescued Monday night after a single-engine plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in Indian River County.
Just before 8:30 p.m., the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received reports about the crash, which occurred about 4 miles east of Vero Beach Regional Airport.
Three people involved in the crash were located and rescued, officials said.

IRCSO shared a video on social media of the rescue. A helicopter, known as “Hawk,” spotted the individuals in the water and directed rescue boats to their location.
A rescue swimmer was also deployed to help make sure everyone was transported safely to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Fort Pierce.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the quick response and collaboration of all the agencies involved,” said a spokesperson. “Your efforts made this life-saving rescue possible.”
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are now investigating the incident.
Indian River County Sheriff’s Office marine units, Indian River Shores Public Safety Department, Vero Beach Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Agents, Indian River County Fire Rescue, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission all assisted in the rescue.
