The sheriff’s office said the suspect fired again at some point toward members of the SWAT team and deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.

Several alerts were issued about shots fired at 103 NW 9th Terrace, near the main HR building for the University of Florida, which is not on the main campus.

The sheriff’s office reiterated there was no active threat to the University of Florida.

The sheriff’s office said the main HR building for the university was evacuated out of an abundance of caution, and deputies are utilizing the space as a command headquarters.

The university asked people to avoid the main HR building, and that normal operations can resume on campus.

Traffic near the HR building is being diverted, and West University Avenue is blocked from NW 8th Street and NW 10th Street.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting.

No other information, including the suspect’s name and age, was released.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information.
