8-year-old airlifted to Florida hospital after suffering shark bite while snorkeling

KEY LARGO, Fla. – An 8-year-old boy was bitten by a shark while snorkeling and spearfishing in Florida.

Authorities said the attack happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday while the boy was snorkeling off Horseshoe Reef near Key Largo.

According to News 6 partner WPLG-TV, the boy was with his father and sister when the shark bit him above the knee.

Officials said the child was airlifted to a nearby trauma center.

Officials said the boy was being treated and monitored, but his current condition was unknown.
