Florida’s top restaurant was just revealed. Here’s where to find it

MIAMI, Fla. – This month, the New York Times has released its list of the top 50 restaurants in 2025.

And it turns out that one noteworthy restaurant is situated right here in the Sunshine State.

“These places all have delicious food and a mastery of craft, but also a generosity of spirit and a singular point of view,” the article reads. “Each year’s list is entirely different from the previous year’s, and more than half of the restaurants here have opened since we published our 2024 list.”

The sole Florida pick on the list turned out to be Sunny’s Steakhouse in Miami, which opened relatively recently in October 2024.

One of the authors behind the list provided the following explanation for why the premium steakhouse earned top marks:

“Walk into Sunny’s and you find yourself almost immediately back outside, admiring a banyan tree shading an interior patio surrounded by dining rooms, their windows flung open. The restaurant is, improbably, every bit as good as it looks. Yes, this modern steakhouse in the Little River section of Miami will satisfy your craving for Wagyu and foie gras.

Just bear in mind that the extensive menu contains no dead weight. The kitchen, overseen by the executive chef Aaron Brooks, effectively powers a destination steakhouse in addition to a blue-chip Italian restaurant (the pasta is superb) and a seafood restaurant that flexes its muscles with delicacy — order pineapple hot sauce with oysters and at least one crudo.

Factor in the spectacular pollo a la brassa, and you’ve got something new under the sun: a flamboyant South Florida steakhouse that feels worth it, even after you settle the bill."

The premium steakhouse offers reservations up to 30 days in advance, and it’s typically open from 5:30 - 11 p.m. all week long.

South Florida has been a hotspot for Florida picks on previous New York Times restaurant lists, as well.

Just last year, Walrus Rodeo in Miami was the sole Florida pick, and two other Miami locations — Maty’s and Smoke & Dough — were chosen in 2023.
