PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Six animals died in a fire early Thursday at a zoo in Panama City Beach, as reported by the Pensacola News Journal.

The animals that died in the fire at ZooWorld were all ruffed lemurs, according to a Bay County spokesperson. Two more animals were taken to a vet for treatment, the report states.

Crews responded and put the fire out within half an hour after it was reported around 5 a.m. near the backside of an administration building, the Pensacola News Journal reported.

The cause of the fire was not said to be known at the time of this writing.

ZooWorld has been independently owned since 2015, according to the Pensacola News Journal. It does not appear on the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ list of accredited zoos and aquariums.
