‘Florida is full:’ Would-be governor promises ‘Mamdani Tax’ on homebuyers

ORLANDO, Fla. – After promising a hefty OnlyFans tax and mandatory school uniforms, gubernatorial candidate James Fishback is now offering a new proposal: a “Mamdani Tax” on out-of-state homebuyers.

Investment firm CEO and conservative influencer James Fishback, who is among the candidates joining the governor’s race, announced the plan on Thursday via X.

“As Florida Governor, I’ll slap a $50,000 ‘Mamdani Tax’ on any out-of-state buyer purchasing a single-family home,” he wrote.

Fishback further explained that the tax would be applied to property transactions as a way to dissuade more people from moving to the state.

“Florida needs to put the people who made Florida, Florida back at the front of the line,” he said. “Florida is full. We are not a refugee camp for New Yorkers to flee from their problems.”

Fishback declared his bid to run for governor late last year, running on a platform of stopping H-1B visas for foreign workers, canceling A.I. data centers and abolishing property taxes, much in the same vein as current Gov. Ron DeSantis.

However, Fishback has made headlines in recent weeks after making some more niche promises, including a 50% “Sin Tax” on OnlyFans creators.

“As Florida governor, year one, I will push for the first-of-its-kind OnlyFans Sin Tax,” Fishback said during an interview with the conservative YouTube channel NXR Studios. “If you are a so-called OnlyFans creator in Florida, you are going to pay 50% to the state on whatever you so-called earn via that online degeneracy platform.”

And on Wednesday, Fishback announced that he wanted to mandate uniforms in public schools across the state.

This includes a white polo, khakis and a belt for boys. Girls would instead have to wear knee-length dresses or pant suits.

“Strong schools are only possible with order and discipline,” he declared.

When asked about who would provide the uniforms, Fishback said that parents would receive a $250 stipend per child.

“Enough with the tracksuits. Enough looking like the Migos in our public schools,” Fishback said. “You show up dressed for success, twice a month with a tie, but the rest of the time with a white polo and a jacket.”

On the Republican side, Fishback is running against candidates like frontrunner U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds and Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, the latter of whom announced his candidacy earlier this month.

The election this year is set to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
