FORT MYERS, Fla. – A 32-year-old Florida man was sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump, officials announced on Tuesday.
Christopher Davies, of Cape Coral, who pleaded guilty in October, was sentenced to 27 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Sheri P. Chappell.
According to court documents, Davies wrote a letter to an official at the Charlotte Correctional Institution stating that he had “orchestrated the most daring presidential assassination that this country has ever seen,” and that “Donald J. Trump must perish.”

During an interview with U.S. Secret Service agents, Davies admitted to writing the letter and explained that he wanted to kill Trump, according to authorities.
When asked hypothetically what he would do if Trump was near him, Davies claimed that he would attempt to kill the president with his bare hands, officials said.
