SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – Firefighters in Sarasota County saved someone on the 17th floor of a construction site by using a tower crane to get them down, the fire department said on social media.
The rescue was carried out Monday as Sarasota County Fire Department Special Operations responded to the 600 block of Quay Commons, the post states.
Video shows the Special Operations team using a crane to bring the patient safely to the ground, from where they were then taken to the hospital, according to the post.
“Being one of the 60 members of this specialized team is earned. Hundreds of hours of specialized training in hazardous materials and technical rescues are required to meet and exceed state and federal requirements to be considered for the Special Operations Team application process,” the post states. “(...) Their commitment to excellence ensures they are ready to assist Sarasota County residents and visitors no matter the challenge.”
