Here’s why flags in Florida will be half-staff on Feb. 14

Saturday marks Marjory Stoneman Douglas Remembrance Day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis has ordered flags across Florida to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in remembrance of the lives lost in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

The directive applies to all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the state from sunrise to sunset.

On Feb. 14, 2018, 17 people were killed and 18 others were severely injured when a former student opened fire on students and staff at the Parkland school.

The governor also called on all Floridians to observe a moment of silence at 10:17 a.m. Saturday to reflect on the tragedy.
