CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The vice mayor of Coral Springs was killed in what police described as a “domestic violence incident,” according to the department.
In a release, police announced that Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer had died, though few details were provided at the time.
“She was more than a public servant, she was a light in our community,” the release reads. “Her leadership was grounded in compassion, strength, and an unwavering commitment to others.”
During a news conference later in the day, Police Chief Brad Mock explained that officers had responded to her home around 10 a.m. on Wednesday to investigate her “well-being.”
Upon arrival, police said they found Metayer’s body, and her spouse was soon arrested.
“This is being investigated as a domestic violence incident,” Mock added. “Her husband, Stephen Bowen, is in our custody. There are no additional suspects at this time, and there are no immediate threats to anyone in the public.”
