ORLANDO, Fla. – A convicted mobster from Rochester, New York who escaped from an Orlando-area halfway house has been arrested in South Florida.

Dominic Taddeo, 64, was picked up around 11 a.m. in Hialeah, according to the U.S. Marshall’s Service.

Taddeo was placed in the halfway house in February where he was supposed to ride out the rest of his sentence until February 2023, records show. However, investigators said he failed to return to the halfway house on March 28, when he failed to return from a previously authorized medical appointment.

Authorities from multiple agencies participated in the search for Taddeo.

“The tenacious work of the involved deputy marshals and the cooperation between our offices resulted in the quick capture of Mr. Taddeo,” said U.S. Marshal Bill Berger of the Middle District of Florida in a statement.

From 1990 to 1992, Taddeo was convicted of federal racketeering charges and pleaded guilty to multiple other cases involving weapons offenses, drugs, and among other offenses which included the killing of three men on behalf of the La Cosa Nostra, a Rochester-area crime family, according to the U.S. Marshalls.

Prior to being moved to the halfway house, Taddeo was incarcerated at a prison in Sumter County.
