MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man died after being shot by Marion County deputies after he pointed a gun at them on Sunday afternoon, according to a news release.
Deputies said they responded around 12:17 p.m. to the 2200 block of SW 19th Avenue Road in reference to “a disturbance where an adult male was firing a gun both inside and outside of his home.”

The man was identified Monday as Steven Clark Jr., 41.
According to the release, more shots were heard when deputies arrived.

Deputies said a long standoff ensued but at one point, Clark exited the home and fired more rounds into the air.
He pointed his gun at deputies who then shot him, according to the release.
Clark was taken to a local hospital in serious condition but later died, according to an update Monday.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will handle the investigation.
