Man killed after colliding mid-air with fellow skydiver in DeLand

DeLAND, Fla. – A 42-year-old man was killed after colliding mid-air with another skydiver Monday in DeLand, police said.

Officers were called around 2:25 p.m. to DeLand Municipal Airport after a skydiver suffered a hard-landing, according to the DeLand Police Department.

Police on Tuesday identified the man as Giullianno Scotti, of Brazil.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that two skydivers collided, and Scotti’s body was found in the 1600 block of Lexington Avenue.

First-responders conducted life-saving measures, but Scotti was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The other skydiver was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to police.

The victim’s body was turned over to the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
