Seminole County Supervisor of Elections launching new initiative to honor veterans

‘Vote for Valor’ campaign aimed at recognizing sacrifices made in service to the United States

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – The supervisor of elections in Seminole County is launching an initiative to honor those who have served in the military.

During a news conference Friday, Chris Anderson announced “Vote for Valor,” which is designed to underscore the significance of civic engagement and recognize the sacrifices made in service to the United States.

“There’s a program here we’ve brought together that will always remember the valor that gave us the vote,” Anderson said.

The initiative allows people to submit information for a veteran or active-duty military member and that person will be recognized on the Wall of Honor at the Supervisor of Elections Office.

The first veteran submitted was Anderson’s great uncle who served during World War II.

Clinton Burns, now 102, fought with General George Patton’s 3rd Infantry Division Army at the Battle of the Bulge.

“He’s just tough as nails and it’s pretty cool to know that’s my family,” Anderson said. “He means resilience. He never gave up.”

Anderson said every vote cast is a testament to the sacrifices of service members and the recognition is just one step to uphold the legacy of their bravery.

“We want to remind those voters out there that your right to vote came at a cost,” he said. “And those that have paid it, who are paving the way so that we can give you that piece of paper.”
