PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. â The Disney Treasure features several venues paying homage to popular Disney World attractions. The Skipper Society Lounge is an ode to the Jungle Cruise and continues the story.
âWe pulled inspiration from several things. The queue line, for example. Our beautiful banketteâs feature artwork and photos fans might remember from the queue lines at the attraction. We also wanted to bring in that jungle feel with the jungle canopy and that will reminisce and be foliage you see on the attraction,â said Disney Imagineer Karyn Poore.
The lounge has several screens for trivia and a stage with live entertainment. The proscenium around the stage has carvings of different animals from the Jungle Cruise. While most of the inspiration comes straight from the Jungle Cruise franchise, Disney Imagineers also used inspiration from the ship and some of their own colleagues.
âWe added a Disney Cruise Line twist. Our âEms Empressâ boat sign you see above the (bar) area is named after the river the Disney Treasure first sailed to make its way here, the Ems River in Europe,â said Poore. âIf you take a seat and look at all the postcards the skippers are sending, you might find some hidden gems including a photo of one of our production design managers, John Higgins, who started his career with the Walt Disney Company as a skipper for the Jungle Cruise ride.â
Thereâs also custom parrot chandeliers reminiscent from Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom.
Between trivia and live music, you may hear some Skipper announcements from the radio located inside the lounge.
âWeâve been working on it for so long and it was a team experience. Weâre just excited for guests to see it,â said Poore.
