Pilot injured when airplane makes crash-landing in Florida

OCALA, Fla. – A pilot was taken to a hospital as a trauma-alert patient late Wednesday after a plane crash-landed in Ocala.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. off SW 67th Avenue Road, about 4 miles from Ocala International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Video from the scene shows the Cessna 182 on its nose, with a broken propeller.

Ocala police and the FAA said the pilot was the only person on board.

According to a news release from the Ocala Police Department, crews located the plane with help from a third-party pilot flying overhead and a passerby who used his vehicle lights to keep the crash site illuminated.

The pilot, who was extricated from the plane in six minutes, was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

The FAA will investigate the crash.
