ORLANDO, Fla. – A new warning sign was posted in Polk County after a woman was recently attacked and killed by an alligator.

The sign, posted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, warns people not to swim in Tiger Creek near Lake Kissimmee. It also states that canoeing and kayaking can be extremely dangerous.

Last week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said 61-year-old Cynthia Diekema was canoeing in the area with her husband when they unknowingly went over an 11-foot gator that then attacked and killed her.

The FWC said the alligator was later captured and killed.
