KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Osceola County officials broke ground Wednesday morning on a $47 million comprehensive rebuild of Reedy Creek Elementary School, a project aimed at expanding the school’s capacity and providing modern learning spaces for students.

The project, led by Swedish contractor Skanska, will involve demolishing portions of the existing school in Kissimmee and constructing a new 96,000-square-foot academic center. Once completed, the school will accommodate nearly 950 students, an increase from its current capacity of about 820.

Principal Katie Adams said the rebuild is a long-awaited development for the Poinciana community.

“This has been a long time coming for the Poinciana community. This school has been around for a long time. It’s a unique building. We’re going to be sad to see it go but excited for the future,” Adams said.

The project is part of a broader wave of school construction across Osceola County, one of Central Florida’s fastest-growing areas.

In January, the district broke ground on Nova Road High School, a 2,500-student campus expected to open next year. A new K-8 school in Kindred is set to open in August, while notable renovations are underway at Osceola County School for the Arts.

The new Reedy Creek Elementary is expected to be completed by the 2026-27 school year. School officials say the rebuild will occur in phases to minimize disruptions, with the new student building constructed first followed by the demolition of existing structures.

“A lot of history and this is a very unique design, one of, I believe, only two that ever were built in the country. But it’s time for an upgrade,” Adams said. “This community deserves that too.”

District leaders, contractors and local officials attended Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony.
