‘Growth is always going to happen:’ Groveland officials to vote on key infrastructure projects

New fire station among topics of discussion

GROVELAND, Fla. – As local leaders have been working to keep up with growth in Lake County, the city of Groveland is addressing some key infrastructure improvements.

At a meeting on Monday, commissioners will vote to secure a $10 million loan for a permanent fire station northeast of the city.

Fire Station 3 would be built on a three-acre site on State Road 19 and South O’Brien Road.

“Right now, we currently don’t have the infrastructure to serve the buildings that are in that area,” Communications Director Jenn Clutts said. “This is to make sure we’re able to swiftly and correctly take care of the businesses that we have right now.”

The new fire station would replace a temporary facility that’s been serving the area for the last five years.

“This permanent one will make sure we have the equipment and resources available for the entire area,” Clutts said.

Commissioners will also address needed utility improvements when they vote on a $15 million line of credit for its water and sewer system.

“We’re required to meet certain aspects with the Department of Environmental Protection for our current infrastructure,” Clutts said. “This will go towards servicing an existing plant that we have and improvements within that plant that we need.”

The investments will be made as cities like Groveland have been trying to keep pace with development in Lake County. Clutts said the city has developed a comprehensive plan on the issue.

“Of course, change and growth is always going to happen, especially when a place is as great as Lake County,” Clutts said. “Everyone is working as hard as they can work to keep working towards the future.”
