Another student had reported Moisell for what they said occurred the day prior, when the 17-year-old allegedly retrieved the firearm from under a seat in his car to show the other students after school, the post states.

Moisell was questioned the next day, yet the deputies he then allowed to search his vehicle and person did not initially locate the weapon, according to the sheriff’s office. This, investigators said, was allegedly because Moisell had already hidden the gun.

Later in the day, a student told deputies that Moisell returned to class after the search and told other students that he had already removed the gun from his car. He also claimed that he wrapped it in a black t-shirt and threw it into the woods behind his car.

A school resource officer acting on the new information returned to Moisell‘s vehicle and located a worn path into the woods, where the shirt-wrapped gun was reportedly found nearby, the sheriff’s office said.

The 17-year-old was then removed from class and refused to answer questions about the gun, at one point spontaneously uttering that he did bring the weapon to school, the post states.

Moisell was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail before being transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to the sheriff’s office.
