Around 10 p.m. Thursday, an Altamonte Springs Police Department detective conducting surveillance on a sedan in the area of State Road 436 and Anchor Road noticed George, the only occupant, exit and re-enter the vehicle multiple times, the sheriff’s office said in an arrest report.
George also reportedly ran stop signs and left the vehicle running while unoccupied, alleged actions that gave the detective probable cause to conduct a traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said.
George and the detective were both approaching the intersection of Plymouth Avenue and Magnolia Street when the detective activated his emergency lights, according to the report. At the same time, the detective allegedly saw George shoot a gun from the sedan’s driver side; thinking at first that George was shooting at them, the detective initiated a vehicle pursuit, yet a review of the camera in the detective’s car revealed George was actually shooting in the direction of an address along Plymouth, the report states.
George drove away and soon had numerous Altamonte Springs officers in pursuit, according to the report. Now in Longwood, George lost control of the sedan and bailed out in the area of S.R. 434 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard, the report states. George was arrested after attempting to run away, the sheriff’s office said.
A detective searching the area located a Glock 17 handgun around 15 feet from where George was apprehended, the report states.
Back where the pursuit began, the sheriff’s office said two residents of the shot-up home along Plymouth Avenue reported more than $1,000 in damage. Twelve spent cartridge cases were found there, investigators said, adding the Glock 17 was found to be stolen and had been modified to shoot full-auto.
No further information was immediately available, such as of any more potential charges.
