ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A spokesperson for the city of Ormond Beach confirmed a house fire was caused by a lightning strike on Friday.
Firefighters responded to Crooked Bridge Way, where neighbors had reported seeing a flash followed by smoke, the spokesperson said in a statement. The Ormond Beach Fire Department soon confirmed the lightning strike and located a hole in the house consistent with lightning impact, the statement reads.
A more detailed report is on its way once the fire department’s battalion chief finalizes his findings, according to the spokesperson.
It marks the third report we’ve confirmed Friday of a lightning strike impacting persons or property in Volusia County. Over in New Smyrna Beach, a man at the beach itself was hospitalized after being struck by lightning and two golfers were evaluated by first responders after being indirectly struck at Venetian Bay, officials said.
