MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A woman shot a Marion County sheriff’s deputy early Monday with a gun hidden in the crotch of her pants while she was being taken to jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Pine Avenue.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy made a traffic stop on SE 161st Street in Summerfield.
Rheanna Harden, 22, was arrested and was being taken to jail when she used a handgun hidden in her pants to shoot the deputy, according to officials.
According to spokesperson Valerie Strong, the suspect was in the deputy’s car when she fired a bullet that grazed his face. He fired back.
The deputy and Harden were treated for their injuries and later released from the hospital, sheriff’s officials said.
“All of our deputies and our staff here are very glad and extremely grateful that our deputy is fine,” Strong added.
Harden was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, providing false identification to law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
