DeLAND, Fla. – The city of DeLand announced on Tuesday it is moving forward with its long-planned addition to Fire Station No. 83 to enhance fire and emergency response services on the east side of the city, according to a news release.

Located at 1655 E. Taylor Road, the station is in one of the fastest-growing areas in DeLand due to the significant residential and commercial development taking place, the city said.

“As we’ve anticipated growth in this particular area of DeLand, we want to stay ahead of the needs that we foresee in the future,” Fire Chief Todd Allen said. “Our goal is to continue providing the highest level of service to all residents, and with the influx of development plus population, this expansion is critical.”

Planning for the project began in 2022, the city said. Since then, funding for the architectural design was secured in the 2023–24 fiscal year budget and construction funding was secured the following fiscal year.

The total project cost is $975,372.30, officials said, with construction expected to begin at the end of July 2025, projected to take approximately four to six months.

Temporary housing for firefighters will be provided during the construction period to ensure uninterrupted emergency service coverage in the area, the news releases stated.

A new ladder truck was also included in the expansion efforts, to better support Station 83’s expanded capabilities, the city said. A new ladder truck was ordered in September 2023 and is being custom-built. The truck is scheduled for delivery in January 2026, officials said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held upon the project’s completion to celebrate this important investment in public safety, the news release said.
