Wife of suspended Osceola County sheriff must still prove legitimacy of some funds after bond hearing

Robin Lynn Severance Lopez accused of conspiracy to commit racketeering

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Robin Severance Lopez must still prove that at least $20,000 is coming from a legitimate source as she looks to bond out of jail.

Both the defense and the prosecution agreed that the Severance Lopez proved $380,000 was legally acquired, but the remaining $20,000 of her $400,000 bond remains in question.

The defense claimed they have proven they have more than enough money. The prosecution argued that Severance Lopez deliberately caused confusion in her financial transactions to obscure where the funds were really coming from.

Severance Lopez will remain in the Lake County jail while her defense works to prove the legitimacy of those funds.

Severance Lopez, 50, is accused of conspiracy to commit racketeering in a multimillion-dollar illegal gambling operation.

Prosecutors said she helped facilitate money flowing through the operation, even offering a property to secure Marcos’ bond despite their ongoing divorce.

“It’s tragic that Ms. Severance Lopez has been swept up in this case given her lack of involvement in any conspiracy,” attorney Michelle Yard wrote in a statement to News 6 on Wednesday. “I am highly optimistic that the judge will finally allow her release from detention at the hearing tomorrow, and I look forward to fighting this allegation against her moving forward.”

The suspended sheriff posted a $1 million bond last week after a judge determined the money did not come from criminal activity.

The sheriff faces two first-degree felonies: racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering. Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended him from office earlier this month.

Lopez is accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal cash payments as part of what prosecutors are calling an organized criminal enterprise.

The crimes allegedly occurred from August 2019 to at least August 2024, according to court documents.

Severance Lopez is the seventh person to be charged in the case.

Her next court date is July 21.
