PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A family of three appeared to be struck by lightning at St. Pete Beach on Friday afternoon, according to fire officials.
St. Pete Beach Deputy Fire Chief Adam Poirrier told News 6 that first responders headed to the scene near 4700 Gulf Blvd. at 12:19 p.m. after the incident was called in.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the family of three — two adults and a 17-year-old girl — seemed to have been struck by lightning while beneath an umbrella at the beach, Poirrier explained.
“Crews quickly rendered emergency aid to all victims,” he wrote.
Per Poirrier, both of the adults were treated at the scene and refused any additional medical treatment.
However, the teen was taken as a trauma alert to Tampa General Hospital, he said.
No additional information about the incident has been provided at this time.
