SANFORD, Fla. – Video released by a Sanford business gives us a new look at what canceled Sanford’s Fourth of July fireworks on Friday.
The Sanford Police Department said lightning struck the area where the fireworks were being stored.
Video from a staff member at St. Johns Rivership Co. shows what happened next.
The video, taken from the company’s Barbara-Lee sternwheeler shows the fireworks going off all at once and shooting into the air.
The company posted the video on its Facebook page.
Guests were planning to watch the fireworks from the ship that night, according to owner Michelle Wyatt.
Instead, the ship went downriver and watched the fireworks show at Gemini Springs in DeBary.
No one was injured by the lightning strike or the fireworks going off, but it did cancel the display expected later that night. The “Star Spangled Sanford” event still went on, sans sparklers.
