According to the Seminole County Fire Department, residents in the home heard crackling sounds, which is what woke them up. A woman at the home injured her knee while trying to escape.

Fire officials said a dog and bird died in the fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Christina Diaz said there was only one smoke alarm in the bedroom and the smoke was not close enough to be detected. Diaz said if it had not been for the residents hearing the crackling sounds, the outcome could have been a lot different.

The department said the structure was a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
