NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Police in New Smyrna Beach and South Daytona are investigating a possible murder suicide, according to a news release.
New Smyrna Beach police said they responded to a call from an out-of-state woman who told them she spoke to a New Smyrna Beach resident who stated she “killed her boyfriend and intended to take her own life.”
According to the release, police responded to the woman’s New Smyrna Beach home, and while they tried to make contact with her, she “died by suicide.”
Meanwhile, South Daytona police conducted a welfare check at the home of the person believed to be her boyfriend, and discovered the body of a 62-year-old man.
New Smyrna Beach police said they are leading the investigation into the suicide, while South Daytona police are conducting a homicide investigation involving the man.
“Both agencies are coordinating closely to determine the full scope and sequence of events,” the release said in part.

Police said the identities of the man and woman are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
No other information was released.
