MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County firefighters responded early Monday to a burning church in Citra.

Units were dispatched around 5:49 a.m. to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church along NE 140th Street, which a 911 caller had reported was fully engulfed in flames, Marion County Fire Rescue said on social media.

Firefighters from six stations worked to suppress the fire, declaring it under control at 7:20 a.m. after a primary search led to a defensive strategy, the post states.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported, according to the fire department.

A total of 12 suppression units and 29 firefighters responded to the scene, the post states.

The state fire marshal is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire, according to the post.
