Lightning cited as likely cause of Leesburg house fire

Roof collapses at house on Stoney Brook Drive

LEESBURG, Fla. – A lightning strike Monday night likely sparked a house fire in Leesburg, officials said.

The fire broke out at a home on Stoney Brook Drive.

Leesburg fire officials said crews arrived at the home and saw flames shooting from the roof of the home.

Firefighters entered the home but had to back out because the roof collapsed, officials said.

The homeowner, her pet and the firefighters all made it out safely.
