PAWS: Osceola County Animal Services halts dog intakes. Here’s why

Rise in cases of upper respiratory illness prompts temporary pause

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Osceola County Animal Services on Sunday announced it is pausing its dog intakes due to an increase in upper respiratory illness cases.

The shelter said the pause helps prevent the spread of the illness among the animals.

Despite the temporary pause in dog intakes, Osceola County Animal Services said adoptions are still happening.

“This illness is treatable with medication, and dogs recover faster in a calm, clean home environment — which is why adoption and fostering are so important right now," the shelter wrote on Facebook.

This pause only applies to non-emergency cases.

It’s not known how long the pause will last.
