VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – One of the leaders behind a major drug trafficking ring in Volusia County was finally sentenced this week, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office explained that the man — identified as Allen Messer, 59 — had headed a drug trafficking ring responsible for dealing fentanyl, heroin, meth and cocaine throughout the county.

In a release, deputies said that Messer was found guilty of the following charges after a five-day trial:

  • Conspiracy to traffic in methamphetamine
  • Trafficking in methamphetamine
  • Unlawful use of a two-way communications device to facilitate the commission of a felony
  • Conspiracy to traffic in fentanyl
  • Conducting unlawful financial transactions
  • Solicitation to deliver fentanyl
  • Solicitation to deliver cocaine

Messer was ultimately sentenced to 30 years in prison and ordered to pay a $1 million fine, the release says.

This comes as part of “Operation Wild ‘N Out,” which deputies said dismantled the trafficking ring last year with 38 arrests.

During the operation, investigators said they seized over 19 pounds of methamphetamine, 69 grams of cocaine, and even 75 grams of fentanyl stashed in a baby diaper.

“In total, the 36 defendants charged in this case have been sentenced to over 220 years in prison combined,” the release concludes.
