NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Two people were seriously injured Friday morning when a small plane crashed just outside of New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport, according to police.
Officers and firefighters responded to the crash around 10:30 a.m. in the area of South Street and Clarendon Avenue.

Police said there were two people aboard the plane, and both were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The airport was briefly shut down but has since reopened.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it would investigate the crash.
No other information was released, including what led to the crash.
